Togo Overview

Togo is a long and narrow country situated in western Africa. It extends about 365 miles inland from the Gulf of Guinea and only 40 miles wide at the coast. Togo’s name in French, the official language, is Republique Togolaise (Togolese Republic). Togo means behind the sea in Ewe, the most commonly used language in Togo.

Lomé, the capital city is a good place to start your trip. Daytrips can be made to Togoville on the borders of Lake or Aneho.

Togo has a hot, humid climate. The temperature averages 81 °F (27 °C), and rainfall averages about 40 inches a year in the north and 70 inches in the south.
