Tajikistan is a mountainous country in central Asia. Tajikistan became independent in 1991, after more than 60 years as a republic of the Soviet Union.
Beautiful and remote, Tajikistan has much to offer there are opportunities for alpine mountaineering, rock climbing, hiking, or camel riding, historical exploration, cultural experiences or you may simply want to relax among the dramatic mountains and lakes.
Summers in the valleys are typically long, hot, and dry. Winters in the highlands are long and cold. Temperatures in the valleys average 36 °F (2 °C) in January and 86 °F (30 °C) in July. Temperatures in the highlands average -4 °F (-20 °C) in January and 72 °F (22 °C) in July. In parts of the eastern Pamirs, temperatures can drop to -58 °F (-50 °C).

The overall security situation in Tajikistan is currently stable but tourism, health and transport infrastructure in country is poor and travel requires careful planning. You should avoid off-road areas immediately adjoining the Afghan, Uzbek and Kyrgyz borders, which may be mined.
