Netherlands Overview

Netherlands is a small country on the North Sea in northwestern Europe. It is bordered by Belgium and Germany. The Netherlands is often referred to as Holland, but this name officially refers only to the western part of the country. The people of the Netherlands call themselves Netherlanders. They are also known as the Dutch.

Amsterdam is unique in its mix of canals and streets; equally, it’s famous for its easy-going attitudes to soft drugs and prostitution, in a red light area, which is invariably thronged with tourists. But many visitors come here for its treasures of art, as displayed in the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum, filled with the likes of Rembrandt and Vermeer.

CLIMATE

The Netherlands has a mild, damp climate. It has gentle winters and moderately warm summers. Temperatures average from 60 to 65 °F (16 to 18 °C) in summer, and a little above 30 °F (-1 °C) in winter.
