Mozambique is situated on the southeast coast of Africa. The country is noted for its many fine harbors. Mozambique was governed by Portugal from the early 1500’s until 1975, when it became independent after a 10-year struggle against Portuguese rule.
Mozambique is graced with long white beaches, excellent coral reefs and a string of pristine islands, which offer superb fishing, water sports, superb beaches, and surfing. Most of the wildlife reserves are located in the central and southern parts of the country, with the exception of the Niassa Reserve, which is situated on the northern Tanzania border.
Mozambique has a basically tropical climate, but temperatures and rainfall vary considerably in different areas. Temperatures average 68 °F (20 °C) in July and 80 °F (27 °C) in January. About 80 percent of the annual rainfall occurs from November to March.
