Monaco Overview

Monaco is an independent sovereign state with a tiny population of around 32,000. It has an area of less than 1 square mile. Situated between the Southern Alps and the Mediterranean Sea, it’s close in spirit to Nice and Antibes across the border. The towns of Monaco and Monte Carlo sit on cliffs overlooking the Mediterranean.

Monaco is a popular tourist resort, with many luxury hotels, clubs, and places of entertainment. One of its main attractions is the famous Monte Carlo gambling casino. Monaco is also known for the Monte Carlo Rally and the Monaco Grand Prix.

There are plenty of watery attractions. The Oceanographic Museum boasts one of the best aquariums in Europe, catamaran tours of the coastline are on offer and you can admire yachts while eating seafood along the harbour.

CLIMATE

The country has a mild winter climate, with an average January temperature of 50 °F (10 °C). Summer temperatures rarely exceed 90 °F (32 °C).
