Moldova Overview

Moldova is a country in south-eastern Europe, bordered by Romania on the west and by Ukraine on the other three sides.

From 1940 to 1991, Moldova was a republic of the Soviet Union. It was called the Moldavian Soviet Socialist Republic, or simply Moldavia. With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the republic declared its independence and changed its name to Moldova. Chisinau is Moldova’s capital and largest city.
