Maldives Overview

Maldives is the smallest independent country in Asia and one of the smallest in the world. It consists of about 1,200 small coral islands that form a chain 475 miles long and 80 miles wide in the Indian Ocean. A small percentage of the islands are inhabited and 87 are exclusively resorts.

CLIMATE

The climate is hot and humid. Daytime temperatures average about 80 °F (27 °C). The northern islands receive at least 100 inches of rain a year, and those in the south receive almost 150 inches.
