Curacao

Curacao Overview

Lying off the coast of Venezuela, Curacao, is the largest island of the Netherlands Antilles two groups of islands in the West Indies. Curacao is the idyllic result of a wide range of cultural inputs and influences.

Curacao covers 171 square mile. A dry, nearly flat island, Curacao has lovely beaches, warm weather the year around, and picturesque cities and towns.

After the Dutch captured the island from the Spanish in the 17th century, they set about building and naming towns, ports and forts. The capital Willemstad, Scharloo and Fort Amsterdam are unmistakable reminders of the homeland and several areas of Curacao feature on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
