Canada

Canada Overview

Canada is the second largest country in the world in area. Only Russia covers more land. Canada extends across the continent of North America, from the province of Newfoundland and Labrador on the Atlantic coast to the province of British Columbia on the Pacific coast. Canada is slightly larger than the United States, its southern neighbour, but has only about a tenth as many people.

Canada itself is a country of immense proportions. Ninety per cent of the country’s population lives within around 150km of the US border, leaving vast expanses of mountains, prairies, forests and lake lands totally unspoiled.

Canada prefers to consider and define itself a mosaic of cultures and peoples. Canadians are used to living and interacting with people of different ethnic backgrounds on a daily basis and will usually be quite friendly and understanding if approached in public.

Vancouver situated between the Strait of Georgia and the Coast Mountains on Canada’s eastern shores, is a cosmopolitan, trendy and laid-back city. People love it for its atmosphere, scenery and outdoor charm and in the winter months, its proximity to Whistler, one of Canada’s best ski areas makes it a good location to start and explore the country.
