Barbados

Barbados Overview

Barbados is an island country in the West Indies. The eastern most West Indian Island, Barbados lies about 250 miles northeast of Venezuela. It is one of the most densely populated countries in the world.

Genteel and laid back, activities on Barbados are plentiful, ranging from surfing, diving and yachting, to land-based adventures such as hiking and horse riding.

Roads are excellent and the interior landscape rolls prettily with smatterings of rain forest and old plantation houses to explore. Beach life is, naturally, the biggest draw to Barbados. On the west coast are the idyllic glossy-brochure sands. The eastern coast is worth visiting for it’s more isolated, wilder shores, especially at Crane Beach.

CLIMATE

Temperatures range between 70 and 87 °F (21 and 31 °C). Rainfall varies from 80 inches a year in the north to between 40 and 60 inches in the south. Hurricanes occasionally cause extensive damage on the island.
