Taking your child(ren) abroad for the first time maybe a daunting thought, especially as their safety is paramount. Always keep an eye on your child(ren) never leave them unattended. Always keep some form of identification in your child’s pocket in case you accidentally become separated.

Take a recent photo of your child(ren) for emergency identification purposes.

If you are staying in a hotel then teach your child(ren) never to open the door of your room to anybody.

Although the beach is a great place for a child you should NEVER allow your child(ren) to enter the sea unattended and always check the coloured flags on display. These will show you the condition of the sea and whether it is safe to enter the water or not.

If you are unsure of the coloured flags and there meaning they are as follows:

RED AND YELLOW - SAFETY
GREEN - SAFE TO SWIM IN FLAGGED AREA
RED - DO NOT ENTER THE WATER
YELLOW - DANGEROUS CONDITIONS

As well as observing the flags you should remember not to swim at beaches that are not patrolled by lifeguards or lifesavers, and be aware of dangerous rip currents and strong tides.

If you are intending to use a hotel pool familiarise yourself with the layout of the pool to identify the deep and shallow ends.

Never allow your child(ren) to run around the edge of the pool, as this is where it can be most slippery.
