Food and drink maybe an integral part of travelling for you, however sampling the local cuisine may not have the same affect on your child(ren). So you may want to consider packing a few of their favourite items from home, keep to dried items such as pasta and a couple of tins.
If you are travelling with a baby get them use to eating food at room temperature straight from the jar, it's not always possible to heat things up whilst on the move.
If you intend eating out whilst abroad, remember that piping hot, freshly prepared food is the safest. Avoid cold cooked foods and raw seafood. Be wary of ice cream, salads and peeled fruit.
If you are travelling to a country where the water isn't safe to drink then check the bottled water on offer. Ask yourself is it just treated tap water? and are the levels of salt and other minerals safe for your child?
If you are wary of the water, brand-name carbonated drinks are bottled under strict regulations and offer children a safe alternative. Where appropriate avoid ice in drinks.
If you have a baby which is bottle feeding remember to pack some ready mixed cartons or sachets of powdered formula. Powdered baby milk is widely available abroad although always read the label. |
