HONDURAS

A handshake is an appropriate greeting for men and women. If your host offers you some refreshments, refusing is considered impolite. You will also find being late for social events is common as people believe individual needs are more important than timetables.

HONG KONG

You must show respect to gain respect and is fundamental in social meetings. Try and avoid the colours white and blue as these colours represent death and mourning to the Hong Kong people.

HUNGARY

During a meal, hands but not your elbows are kept on the table.



ICELAND

It's considered bad form to discuss the weather.

INDIA

At social gatherings, guest are adorned with garlands of flowers. It's customary to remove them and carry them over your arm as a sign of humility. Avoid discussing the problems of Pakistan, Kashmir and Afghanistan.

ISRAEL

The main working week is Sunday to Thursday. Businesses will close at 2pm on the Friday and will stay closed on the Saturday. Israelis tend to be informal and will often use first names.

ITALY

During a meal, it is impolite to put your hands in your lap, keep them in view by placing them on the table, but not your elbows.



JAMAICA

Good table manners are considered important, even in casual social situations.

JAPAN

If you are invited into a Japanese home it is customary to remove your shoes and make sure you don't have any holes in your socks. If you greet with a bow, simple hold your arms straight down with your hands facing inwards against your legs. Bend with your back and not your head and to show respect always bend lower than your host.

Don't blow your nose in public when you're in Japan as this is considered offensive.
