Yellow fever is a serious viral infection, transmitted by infected mosquitoes in the tropical part of South America and in a belt across Central Africa. The virus is introduced into the bloodstream via the saliva of the mosquito as it bites.

Some people do not develop a serious form of the disease and may only experience a flu-like illness with fever, muscular pain, fatigue and headaches. In severe cases the disease can progress into vomiting, internal bleeding, jaundice and swollen bleeding gums.

The virus is transmitted by infected mosquitoes, which introduce the virus-laden saliva into the bloodstream.

Yellow fever is found in the tropical areas of Equatorial Africa and equatorial South America. For certain countries, you will require proof of vaccination against yellow fever as a condition of entry.
