SITUATED on a triangular peninsula, Southampton was once Britain's premier passenger port, before air travel replaced sea travel.
Like many cities Southampton was devastated during World War Two, although enough survives to make the city a fascinating place to explore. The best place to appreciate old Southampton is in and around St Michael's Square. It is here you will find St Michael's Church, the oldest in the city and opposite the Tudor House Museum.
Along with some excellent museums, Southampton has fabulous shopping facilities and combined with a vibrant nightlife is a destination where you can spend several days, before catching a ferry to France.
If you are looking for a hotel, hostel or want some ideas for a day out you can easily do so by clicking on the links above. The directory will show you what restaurants, nightclubs, theatres etc can be found in the local area, as well as car hire companies and local taxi firms.
