salisbury

DIVIDED by the rivers nadder, avon and bourne, Salisbury first came to importance following the abandonment of the Old Sarum in the 13th century.

Famed for its cathedral, the 404ft spire soars from the ground and has been a source of inspiration for many artists, including John Constable. Elsewhere you will find the Cathedral Close has buildings dating back from the 14th to the 18th century and preserves a beauty all of its own.

Located on the edge of Salisbury Plain, Salisbury's ancient past can be seen in the low chalk hills which feature prehistoric burial mounds and other ancient monuments. The most important one being Stonehenge. Almost nothing is known about this prehistoric megalithic monument and whatever its purpose, you will be in awe at how primitive man erected the vast blocks of Welsh bluestones.

With a good selection of bars and restaurants, Salisbury's nightlife is relaxed and unhurried, and is a destination that shouldn't go unmissed.
