STANDING on the banks of three main waterways, the river thames, the river cherwell and the Oxford canal, Oxford is a world renowned university town who's history spans a 1000 years.

With 35 colleges, each one has its own character and the splendour of the college architecture lends an unequalled dignity to Oxford's busy city centre. Two good examples are Magdalen College, which was founded in 1448 and Christ Church College, who's most famous resident was Albert Einstein.

Around Oxford city centre, alleyways lead to ancient inns and small shops, which are always worthwhile exploring and across from Magdalen Bridge you will find the Botanical Gardens, and from here you are able to hire a punt in the summer months and enjoy a leisurely trip down the river.

The nightlife in Oxford is a quite affair, compared to other university towns. But with a good selection of bars and restaurants is a destination that can occupy you for several days and be enjoyed all year round.

If you are looking for a hotel, hostel or want some ideas for a day out you can easily do so by clicking on the links above. The directory will show you what restaurants, nightclubs, theatres etc can be found in the local area, as well as car hire companies and local taxi firms.
