WITH the river avon sneaking through the city, Bristol is an energetic place situated in the heart of the West Country.

Bristol began to evolve when ships set sail during the 16th Century to every port of the known world, which opened up international trading routes, and today Bristol is still an important trading centre.

Bristol is surrounded by wonderful countryside and one place that shouldn't go unmissed is Cheddar Gorge, where weathered limestone outcrops hang precariously over the road from 450ft cliffs, and underground caves and potholes feature bizarre crystalline formations.

Back in Bristol the nightlife is vibrant with many of the best bars situated in the Clifton area of the city. But with a variety of cafes, bars and restaurants, there is something to suit most tastes.

If you are looking for a hotel, hostel or want some ideas for a day out you can easily do so by clicking on the links above. The directory will show you what restaurants, nightclubs, theatres etc can be found in the local area, as well as car hire companies and local taxi firms.
