WITH its new status as a city, Brighton first started as a fishing village and wasn't until the 18th Century the resort developed as a result of the health fad for sea bathing.
Today Brighton has a cosmopolitan feel, due largely to the thousands of young foreign students and Brighton's thriving gay community.
The old Brighton can still be found preserved in the winding streets of The Lanes, where you will find many antique shops and cafes.
Being a seaside resort you are offered all the usual distractions, but it isn't until nightfall when Brighton really comes alive. The nightlife is very energetic which is only now starting to gain a national reputation for being a place to party.
If you are looking for a hotel, hostel or want some ideas for a day out you can easily do so by clicking on the links above. The directory will show you what restaurants, nightclubs, theatres etc can be found in the local area, as well as car hire companies and local taxi firms.
